Origin and worth knowing:
The baobab tree (Adansonia digitata), native to South Africa and other African savannahs, belongs to the top league in the superfood sector with its nutrient- and vitamin-rich fruits and their seeds.
Its name derives from "bu hibab" the Arabic term for "many seeds".
A lot of great properties are attributed to this "apothecary tree" in Africa - including these:
The fruits, seeds and leaves are said to help with infectious diseases such as malaria or smallpox, as well as with inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract, against diarrhea or to strengthen the liver.
An essence from the flowers is said to help with arthrosis and arthritis.
The polyphenols, which occur in the plant as a coloring or flavoring, protect your cells by capturing free radicals and have a strong antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and cancer-preventing effect.
Studies have also shown that it has antibacterial and antiviral effects and is also effective in diabetes.
In addition, baobab has about 6x more vitamin C than oranges, 6x more potassium than bananas, twice as much calcium as milk, twice as many antioxidants as goji berries and more iron than red meat.
application
Since the baobab powder has a very pleasant, slightly lemony taste, it can be easily stirred into drinks, smoothies, yoghurt, muesli or even milk.
It can also be prepared with cold or hot water (as an infusion drink) .
To maintain health, an adult should consume a tablespoon of baobab every day. In acute illness, up to 3 tablespoons per day are recommended.
Baobab is also well tolerated and safe for children. 1 teaspoon per day is recommended here.
